The comprehensive infographic below shows the results of the 2017 Africa Digital Airport Index. 8 Airports share first place with 2 points. 3 of the 18 airports did not score any points.

78% of all airports are using consistent terminology across all of their channels. Facebook is the most commonly used social network in the region. No airports are equipped with an indoor location infrastructure (beacons). As a consequence of this – there is no airports that provide their passengers with a live location navigation map available on passenger’s personal devices.

The Index compares and rates the digital customer journey on: connectivity, communication, consistency and commerce. Explanations of the criteria used to score the airports in these categories can be found below the infographic.

The data for this index was gathered in Q4 of 2017, amongst the biggest 18 airports in annual pax in the IATA research region Africa. A more detailed report about a region or specific airport can be requested using the form below.

The ability of the passenger to connect to the digital infrastructure at the airport.

Do airports offer free, unlimited (in time) wifi?

Indoor positioning infrastructure
Does the airport provide an indoor location infrastructure 
             such as beacons?

Commerce
The possibility for passengers to buy airport services through their digital devices.

E-shopping
Can I purchase airport goods and services through my digital
             device?
E-parking
Does the airport offer the possibility to reserve, book and/or
             pay for a parking space via the internet?

Consistency
The level of consistency in aiprt naming and color usage in the presentation of information, across all media channels.

Is the visual identity consistent across channels?

The ability of the passenger and the airport to interact with eachother.
